A reception lady (not even a nurse) takes one look at me and offers me a bed to lay down on - she says you look like you're in agony, is it your back? Yes, I say, my meds haven't kicked in yet, promptly am offered a bed to wait on. Am treated with the up most professionalism and care, sent to get finger braced up with medieval contraption to straighten it - no rude staff, people were professional, so much so that even the reception noticed I was in pain and "struggling" as she put it actually offering me somewhere to lay down. What a difference! No nasty rude receptionists, professional staff who knew what they were doing. Have been very pleased with my treatment there thus far :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6161065053564080769.post-62766704888156254972010-11-29T06:08:23.912+10:002010-11-29T06:08:23.912+10:00Then he puts anesthetic drops in my eye and says h...Then he puts anesthetic drops in my eye and says he'll be back to give me an "injection" in my eye once they work, I say "what you're going to inject my eye with a needle", "yes" he says, "an injection a needle" (Night Dr told me it would be a yellow topical dye)... idiot excuse for Dr who really needs to take some night classes in English and shouldn't be practicing till he gets up to speed leaves me to shit myself for 20 minutes and bracing myself for injection in my eye. He comes back and puts yellow topical drops on it (no injection just like the Night Dr said). And examines it again in machine - maybe the anaesthetic was meant to be done initially prior to any examination and he was trying to cover up his total incompetence (wasn't nearly as painful). Discussions with other Drs after he looks into my eye take place and he seems to be asking for assistance to write up his notes. Then afterwards tells me I have ink dripping out of my eye (and puss of course) gives me more swabs (wet kitchen paper stuff) to clean it, I ask for help and/or a mirror, not offered any - he just points and mimes as to where the dye has dripped on my face while I do best I can to wipe with non-dominant hand wishing, wishing, wishing why on earth was I not sent to the RBWH - this was the worst treatment (or lack there of) I have ever had at a hospital. Sent me off with topical antibiotics, which fortunately fixed infection over a number of days (I think I was there for about 6 hours). Complained to health rights commission and then had to complain direct to the hospital - useless.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6161065053564080769.post-32307260319834956852010-11-29T06:07:01.352+10:002010-11-29T06:07:01.352+10:00Finally after waiting hours, I get let in to see ...Finally after waiting hours, I get let in to see Dr Don't Speak Much English with even less comprehension of the language. He handed me swab after swab wet with water to clean my eye by my self (must have gone through at least 15 of the things and they were more like kitchen paper than a soft thing), with my non-dominant hand (as the other had broken finger), didn't even give me a mirror when asked, didn't give me help, heck it was my eye not a personal part. Why wasn't a nurse called to do this, heck it was my eye, a kind of important part, and this lazy sod couldn't even be bothered helping me clean it. Had to beg him then to do the look in to eye test for shingles the night Dr Lady said I'd need, grudgingly he brings a machine in to do test after consulting with other Drs and grumpily saying that OK i had a right to get the test done (sadly my eye isn't properly clean due to lack of help and is sore and very crusty and still dripping yellow puss and by now very swollen) he pulls it wide open to do the test after a while I'm begging him to stop just for a little while, it hurts like hell (and wouldn't have so much if only I'd been given a proper eye clean).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6161065053564080769.post-83060491381221861182010-11-29T06:02:29.193+10:002010-11-29T06:02:29.193+10:00Hi, It's Tracey - I had a recent terrible expe...Hi, It's Tracey - I had a recent terrible experience a few months ago this year at the Prince Charles (my eye suddenly got extremely puss-filled over the space of hours, I called the night Dr, cause I had had shingles near that eye it was of extra concern, I was wiping massive amounts of yellow goop with saline solution from it every 5 minutes with no sign of it stopping). I got great ambos, OK good. Checked in, got seen by triage nurse, due to prexisting back condition and possible long wait for the doctor she told me to ask for somewhere to lie down to wait, and that the receptionist would organise this. Got told to sit down and wait like "everyone else", went back half an hour later begging for something or some help to clean my eye as it was clearly getting worse and not being cleaned out wasn't helping and my back was really hurting and please give me somewhere to lie down - same response "go sit and wait like everyone else", kept going back and asking for someone to help and give me something to deal with my eye it was getting really bad by then, this was at least noted, finally with my back aching like hades (as I also had a broken finger from a fall on my dominant hand and also the one I need for my cane it made it more difficult to alternate between sitting and standing).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
